Why Universities are Using Chatbots: The Future of Higher Education
Chatbots are versatile tools that can be used in various ways, such as assisting customer service, sales, and human resources teams. They can save time for human workers by helping multiple people at once.
In sales, chatbots can automate pre-sale information gathering through questions or interactive search functions. In higher education, chatbots can help universities interact with students and potential future students, making tasks like "clearing day" easier.
They can also be used to keep current students updated and help next year's students find their academic path. Universities have seen benefits from using chatbots, such as Georgia State University reducing "summer melt" and two UK universities successfully implementing chatbots during the clearing period. Chatbots can also improve student lifestyle and wellbeing by providing guidance and support. Arizona State University's chatbot, Sunny, is supported by human input to ensure quality service, while George Washington University's chatbot, Martha, and Staffordshire University's Beacon chatbot use machine-learning to improve their assistance over time.
Creating a chatbot in 2024 is easier than ever, thanks to the availability of chatbot platforms like Tidio.
